The Family Center will host a Mardi Gras math night at 5:30 p.m., Thursday in Commons A.

Students with an interest in math are encouraged to attend.

There will be games, festive foods, and giveaways. Guest speakers will be on hand to assist students with job opportunities in the math field.

“This is a family event that we hope will interest everyone. With all the giveaways we hope to really bring in the families and students with those math skills the different companies are looking for,” family engagement liaison Roslyn Burch said. “Aside from that, we are just really hoping people are there to come out see what all math has to offer and have a good time.”

The purpose of the event is to show that having an interest or a talent for math can earn students almost any job they want. Students can work for the government, city, or state. They can work as an accountant and even a teacher. There are different avenues students can take with math, Burch said.

Commons A will be divided in two sections for the event. One side for the elementary schools and the other side for junior high and high schools.

The family center has chose to do it this way to make the event more inclusive and appealing to the older students, Burch said.
