Today marks the last day of the two-day regional wrestling tournament where six men and four women wrestlers qualified to compete.

Seniors 113 lbs. Jonathan Aguirre and 160 lbs. John Orango placed fourth, and 145 lbs. senior Cristopher Gamez placed fifth. Freshman 170 lbs. Nicholas “Nick” Patino placed third, junior 285 lbs. Gift Agudike placed third and senior 220 lbs. Leroy Hernandez placed fourth. The team placed fifth in districts.  

“We learned to work together as a team and practice,” head coach Ivan Loya said. “Keep it unified and tense practice. You can’t do that individually this isn’t an individual sport, but they’re learning how to push the pace and keep each other accountable during practice so we can all hold more official practices.”

The women’s wrestling team had four regional qualifiers: freshman 110 lbs. and district champion Angela Perez, sophomore 138 lbs. and district runner-up Ifeoma “Faith” Agudike,  junior 148 lbs. Jalynn Patino placed third and freshman 185 lbs. Christina Faulk placed third.
