Senior Jose Ortiz signed with Southern Methodist University today to play soccer.

“I was just happy and excited because that’s another chapter in my life; going to college,” Ortiz said. “Especially since it’s not just education but since I’m an athlete I am gonna be on the soccer team so that’s an extra bonus.”

The forward scored 32 goals in his freshman year and was named Fort Worth Star-Telegram boys soccer player and the 2016-2017 Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year. He beat his record the following year with 42 goals and again last season with 59 goals.

He enters his last season as a Texan with 133 total goals.
