A celebration of life event for teacher Rebecca Pfleger will be held at 4 p.m, today in the Auditorium.

Pfleger passed away Saturday, Jan. 19. She was 44 years old.

Principal Fernando Benavides said Pfleger was a SHHS teacher for 15 years and impacted the lives of many students.

“I quickly found out what a special teacher she was because she cares deeply about kids and about others,” he said. “She’s also a mom and both her children went to Hill, Bailey and now they go to Arlington High and at the time she could have just as easily worked at Arlington or somewhere closer to her family and friends. She chose to stay here.”

Attendees have been asked to wear bright and happy, vibrant colors by her daughter Gaby Pfleger via Twitter.

The family has set up the Rebecca Reed Pfleger Scholarship fund in her honor for a Sam Houston student. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the scholarship fund.
