ARCHERY SHOOTS ITS WAY TO STATE
Two students qualified for the archery state finals March 22.
“It feels nice finally having someone from Sam to go to state,” archery sophomore Jacquelyne Herrera said. “I was so excited that my teammates did because Sam’s never gone to state for archery before.”
Senior Christopher “Tanner” McCorvey and sophomore Kevin Mancilla will represent SHHS at the tournament.
“I can make my parents so proud,” Mancilla said. “Because I’ve been doing archery since I was like six or five years old.”
He encourages students to consider joining the archery team to improve it and have more than five members.

Truth be told, Junior Victor Carranza qualified and shot in the 2016 state tournament. Victor has held the SHHS mens’ record for the past two seasons however, Mancilla and McCorvey have each eclipsed Carranza’s record this season. I am so proud of each of the Texan archers that I have been able to work with. Each has been a wonderful representation of your great campus and student body. I am eagerly awaiting the day that the Sam Houston family fields a full team of 24 and has the opportunity to compete for a team state title. Please join me in congratulating both Kevin and Tanner for their outstanding performances and wish them both well as they prepare to compete in the 2018 state championships.
