The varsity mariachi band earned a spot at the state competition Saturday, Feb. 24 at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas.

“We are so excited! We are happy for the kids they worked really really hard,” mariachi instructor Jillian Adams said. “They want to go learn and see the other groups that are going to be there.”

Senior finalist Tahlia Aranda plays the violin. She has been playing the violin since fifth grade.

“It makes me feel good that we are able to go,” Aranda said. “We worked so hard to be able to make it and I’m really excited.”
