Senior Samiya Mohamed-Fawzy kicked off her third year in the j.k. livin’ fitness and wellness foundation by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch for her favorite team, the Texas Rangers Sept. 13 at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

“I’ve been a Rangers fan since I think eighth grade,” Mohamed-Fawzy said. “In Egypt, we couldn’t watch the games so I didn’t know about them until I got to the U.S. I ended up going to their game after my uncle told us he got tickets and I just fell in love with the team even though they ended up losing.”

Mohamed-Fawzy also had the honor of meeting actor Matthew McConaughey, the program’s founder, and described it as “amazing getting to meet him and talk to him.”

She also recalled the words of encouragement he gave her, telling her to “look at all these people here to support her.”

J.k. livin’ co-sponsor Rebecca Pfleger — who has been with the program for six years — expressed her thoughts at seeing Mohamed-Fawzy pitch.

“It was very cool to see her pitch because she had such a positive attitude,” Pfleger said. “She worked really hard and we were grateful she had the opportunity to represent her family and represent Sam.”
