The Debate team has two new captains, junior Kimberly Lopez as debate captain and senior April Peralta as extemp speaking captain this school year.

Lopez said she helps prepare the new kids for debates. She said she chose debate because it offered her a new experience and a place to fit in.

“I wanted to be captain because ever since first year I really liked debate and I’ve been wanting to help those that are new to debate,” she said.

As the extemp speaking captain Peralta works with the speakers on things like body language and speaking persuasively. Peralta said she enjoys the adrenaline and the challenge debating gives her.

“I chose debate because I wanted to improve how I speak in front of other people,” Peralta said.

Together they plan to make this the best year of debate.
