OPINION: TEACHERS SHOULD TAKE UP ALL CELL PHONES IN CLASS
There is always an appropriate time for students to use their cell phones in class, but students are abusing this privilege.
I think all teachers should take up students’ cell phones until the end of the class period.
Students text their girlfriends or boyfriends during class. Students can’t text and pay attention at the same time because they are not focusing on their work. Texting in class, can get students behind on their class work.
Cell phones are not allowed during testing, but some students disobey this rule. Teachers find this disrespectful. Teachers don’t know if students are actually texting, or looking up the answers.
But students have to learn when and when not to use their cell phones in class. Some teachers allow students to use their cell phones in class, but only if they have finished their work or at the end of the period. Students can check their Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. They also can check their messages, or text their friends. If students want to use their cell phones, they have to earn that privilege.
In general, students think that teachers are taking their social interaction away. Students don’t understand that teachers just want students to learn and get their education.
I think all teachers should take up students’ cell phones until the end of class period.
